REDMOND ROD & GUN CLUB

NEWSLETTER

MARCH 2010

Greetings fellow Shooting Sports Enthusiasts!

I recently volunteered to prepare our newsletter.  I will (attempt to) publish it monthly the week after the RR&GC (Redmond Rod & Gun Club) Board Meetings which are held on 1st Monday of each month (allowing for occasional shuffle to accommodate holidays, etc.).  I am open to input from each of the shooting disciplines, and it is best if I get said input at the Board Meeting or by the following Tuesday at latest.

Read on for all the news that is newsworthy

From Your President, Vice-Presidents, & Board Members

RR&GC President Gerry Glave says:

Hello Redmond Rod & Gun Club Supporter!

In keeping with the “One Club” concept, we are open to ideas to draw more shooters to multiple disciplines.  Please forward your ideas / suggestions via e-mail, or drop note at the Rifle Range.  You are invited to attend Board Meetings on 1st Monday of month as well.  A step in that direction is noted in the Rifle / Handgun Range section: See, “Handgun 101” note.

Regards,

Gerry Glave

President, RR&GC

     Public Relations and Marketing

We have a new addition to the public relations and marketing side of the Club.  Photographer Alexis West is gathering some photos of the club for future media and will show up at the range at various times.  Alexis is going to be in the training for RSO.  She is a professional photographer, videographer, illustrator, and digital artist among her many talents.  So welcome her and keep smiling for the little birdie!

Cleanup day at Handgun Range was dirty fun indeed.  The crew raked the major berms, repaired minor berms, moved and added berms and generally spruced up the place.  A round of applause to; Josh Bishop, Brian Ferry, Dennis Mikesh, Jim Oeder, Si Simonson, Jason Tryon, Terrence Wonser, Tom York and Gary Bryson.  Extra special thanks to Mo Chandler who provided tractor/scoop to move all the dirt and level range floor (saved about a zillion shovels full).  Bill Layton kept everyone safe as the RSO that morning.  Special thanks as well to whoever repaired and painted the long bench at the handgun range!

The Youth Hunter Ed Challenge (YHEC) Program will begin utilization of Rifle and Handgun Ranges Tuesday 5-8PM.  A regional event is planned for 22 May.  The Shaver Family will officiate the events, call Carl Shaver 541-881-7991.  Students 18 yrs. or under who are graduates of the Hunter Safety Ed Program (see Youth Programs, above) will get training on Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzle Loader, Bow, Knowledge of Hunting, Game Rules.

There will be an open to the public basic handgun familiarization (Handgun 101) class presented by Bill Layton and assistants on Sunday, March 7th; Two classes 10AM12:45PM; 1:15PM - 4 PM. This is not a self defense or CCW class, but a class for people who own handguns and would like to learn more about safety, assembly/disassembly, cleaning, and the basics of shooting.  It is for men, women, and youth (those 17 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult). Cost is $10 per person. Proceeds will go to the relocation fund.

Hunter Education Field Day will be held on the rifle and pistol range on Saturday, March 13. The ranges will be closed until about noon.

There will be a Bowling Pin Shoot Match on Sunday, March 14, from 1:00 PM until 4 PM.  The rifle and pistol ranges will be closed during that time. There will be 5 pin, 9 pin, semi-auto, revolver, and 22LR competition.  Entry is $10 per event with half going to the relocation fund and half to be used as prize money in each competition. Practice and come!

From Pin Shoot Director Romey Bromwich:

If anyone is planning on being at the pin shoot March 14, our secretary asked for pre registrations to log in ahead of time to make things even faster day of the event.  This way she can find your name on the registration and only need to collect fees.  So if you plan on attending email me back with the events you know you will be shooting.  Of course you can add to or take off events day of when you pay. It’s just something that saves range time.  If you get your name down and can’t make it, it’s no big deal but if you do plan on it as of this time please do so.
Thanks, all.

The trap range WRETA Shoot on 24 & 25 April may host 100+ entrants and family members: Last year many took the opportunity to visit the Rifle and Handgun Ranges as well, and we garnered new members as result.  However, the ranges were VERY busy.  Accordingly, there is need to double up the RSO Crews that weekend.  Please contact Chris Chandler and sign up for this important event.  WRETA shooters will be able to shoot at the Rifle/Pistol Ranges for the member price of $1.00.
