IMPORTANT MUST READ

This year the Board of Directors has worked hard on providing shoots and events for all areas of the club.  This newsletter was started to keep you, the members, informed of all the happenings.  BUT YOU MUST READ IT!!!!  Also PAY ATTENTION to the reader board, the website and the bulletin boards in the club house and the rifle/pistol sign-in office.

If you have read all of these areas and don’t see an event only then can you say these dreaded words “I didn’t know there was a shoot today”.  This newsletter contains the shoots scheduled for the next several months BUT watch for further additions to this schedule.  Also for all of you who can hit a target but can’t read the fine print I have made this print larger for your reading enjoyment. ☺

Location Workgroup

May 2008 Update

Message from the President

Many of us have read in the local newspapers about the reported intention of Deschutes County to sell the land on which our club and the Sheriff's range are located.  The City of Redmond was also reported as having decided to allow further development of the Eastern part of the city where we are located.  Also, the Redmond Airport is studying how they can extend the runway by three thousand feet.

Many of you are also aware of the difficulty we had in negotiating our lease this last time, about three years ago.  We were ultimately granted a ten year lease but with only a one year notification of termination by the County.

Out of concern for the future of our shooting club, I have established a "Location Workgroup."  The primary mission of this group is to determine the feasibility of our being able to keep the club at its current location for the long term and if so how to go about ensuring this.  If it appears that we will not be able to do this then I will ask this group to find a suitable location where the club as a whole may be relocated.

I have appointed the following members of the club to serve on the workgroup:

Don Frick

Jerry Gage

Gary George

Gerry Glave

Don Littlefield

Gary George will serve as Chairperson and will be the person contacting Deschutes County about our lease and the possible sale of the land we are located on, the City of Redmond about further development in the Eastern part of the city, and the Federal Aviation Administration about how and when they may expand the airport.

Don Frick served on the lease committee and was active in looking for sites when it seemed we might have to move three years ago.

Jerry Gage will be representing members who are primarily skeet and/or sporting clays shooters.  Any members from these two areas who have ideas or suggestions should contact Jerry.

Gerry Glave also served on the lease committee and will be representing members who are primarily rifle/pistol shooters.  Any members from these two areas who have ideas or suggestions should contact him.

Don Littlefield will be representing members who are primarily trap shooters and any members from this area that have ideas or suggestions should contact him.

Each of these people will have a variety of other duties as time goes on but I wanted each club member to have a specific person whom they can contact so that all voices may be heard.  This work group will be reporting to the Board of Directors and decisions will be made by the board.  Gerry Glave will be establishing a page on our web site on which information and decisions can be posted.

Please join me in supporting each of the workgroup members as they help us to ensure that a safe and pleasant place for shooting will continue to exist in our area.

Fred Grimes, President
